Pros
- •OLED picture quality delivers stunningly clear, colorful, and visually impressive images, especially noticeable in gaming with deep blacks and vibrant colors.
- •Supports 4K at 120Hz on two HDMI ports with variable refresh rate, making it ideal for high-end gaming setups, particularly with PlayStation 5 compatibility.
- •Sony’s build quality is top-notch, with a thin, lightweight design and sleek, minimal bezel that saves wall space.
- •The TV includes four HDMI ports, providing versatile connectivity options for multiple devices.
- •The Google TV interface is highly responsive and user-friendly, even for those less tech-savvy, and preferred by many over alternatives like WebOS.
- •Optical audio output works perfectly for connecting external sound systems, enhancing the audio experience beyond the built-in speakers.
- •Very low input lag ensures smooth and responsive gameplay, a crucial feature for gamers.
- •The screen auto-dims when video is paused to help prevent OLED burn-in, a thoughtful protective feature.
- •Setup is straightforward; seamless integration with Alexa and PlayStation consoles enhances smart home and gaming convenience.
- •The remote is smaller and streamlined, with some users enjoying a USB-chargeable backlit replacement for ease of use in dark environments.
Cons
- •Built-in speakers are adequate but not impressive; many users recommend pairing the TV with external audio systems for richer sound quality.
- •The screen reflects window light visibly when the TV is turned off, which can be distracting in bright rooms.
- •The large, heavy box requires two people to manage during setup, which might be inconvenient for some buyers.
- •While the built-in software is responsive, some find the interface not perfectly intuitive at first and may require a brief adjustment period.
- •The weight, while manageable, is still significant if mounting the TV without assistance.
Bottom Line
The Sony 55 Inch OLED BRAVIA XR8B for 2025 offers exceptional OLED picture quality paired with features finely tuned for PlayStation 5 gamers and general entertainment alike. Its combination of 4K at 120Hz support, low input lag, and a sleek thin design make it a standout in its class. However, if audio quality is a priority, be ready to invest in an external sound system to fully complete the experience. This model is an excellent choice for those wanting premium visual performance with smart features in one package.
